Report: Man Utd now eyeing 'one of Europe's most prolific strikers' alongside Gyokeres and…

Manchester United could switch their focus to a new striker target entirely in the coming months, according to reports - with Porto striker Samu Aghehowa potentially on their shortlist ahead of the summer transfer window, with the Red Devils in desperate need of a new talisman to aid new signing Matheus Cunha in the attacking department at Old Trafford.

United finished 15th in the Premier League last season, their worst-ever finish in the competition, and without European football, it may be tougher to bring in new recruits without the lure of continental fixtures. That has seen them miss out on the likes of Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap - though Aghehowa could be tempted if a deal can be thrashed out between the two clubs.

The report by CaughtOffside states that Premier League clubs are 'stepping up their efforts' to sign Aghehowa - with United being one of the sides interested in the young Spain international.

Aghehowa, who boasts superb strength and speed, would make him a player who could adapt to the Premier League - and a striker who would fit into Ruben Amorim's mantra, with the Portuguese gaffer having experienced similar success with Viktor Gyokeres at Sporting.

United are thought to be 'closely following' Aghehowa's situation, with Porto reportedly demanding €75million (£63million) for his signature - and with the Primeira Liga side being in no rush to sell, Amorim may have to cough up huge amounts of money to land the striker despite his €100million (£84million) release clause.

He will have made notes on Aghehowa in recent months, having been in the Portuguese top-flight for the first few games of the season - and with 25 goals in all competitions for the Estadio do Dragao outfit, he could be a strong acquisition for the Red Devils if they lump to sign him alongside Gyokeres and Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo.

The opportunity to join a 'top' club could entice Aghehowa to make the move to Old Trafford - especially after being labelled as 'one of Europe's most prolific strikers'.

Although they don't have European football, an upgrade on Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee is needed if United are to end their run of poor form and finish in the top-half of the Premier League as a minimum next season.
