Report: Aston Villa now looking to hijack move for 'unreal' star despite PL rivals being close…

Aston Villa are reportedly eyeing a move for Rennes left-back Adrien Truffert as they look to bolster on the flanks for Unai Emery this summer, according to The Sun.

The Villans lost out on Champions League football on the final day of the Premier League season which has proved to be a significant blow for both sporting and financial reasons.

Unai Emery's men will have to do with Europa League football as their incentive as they look to refresh their squad with new signings, and a new left-back is believed to be one of their priorities.

As per the report from The Sun, Aston Villa could make a move for Truffert if they are able to sell a player beforehand, though Bournemouth are already advanced in negotiations. The Cherries see the Frenchman as their ideal solution in the event that Milos Kerkez departs amid Liverpool's interest, and they are close to agreeing a £20 million transfer, but a hijack attempt from the Midlands has not been ruled out.

Meanwhile, Emery is thought to have been left unimpressed by Lucas Digne and Ian Maatsen, the latter of whom only arrived last summer from Borussia Dortmund in a £35 million deal.

Dubbed "unreal", Truffert could prove to be a valuable addition given his consistent performances in France and his leadership qualities as Rennes’ team captain. The 23-year-old is a product of the club's youth academy and has established himself as a regular in the first team.

Last season, he made 35 appearances across all competitions, contributing three goals and two assists as Rennes finished 12th in Ligue 1. Truffert is also a French international, having earned his debut in 2022.

Aston Villa are also looking to strengthen in attack and are preparing a shock move to sign £300,000-per-week Manchester United outcast Jadon Sancho.

The 25-year-old spent last season on loan at Chelsea, but the Blues paid a £5 million fee to avoid signing the Englishman on a permanent deal after being put off by his eye-watering wages, and a move to Villa could now be on the cards instead.
