Newcastle should turn their attention to ‘excellent’ Chelsea star after being quoted £50m for Elanga - opinion

By all accounts, Eddie Howe is desperate to bring a new right winger to Newcastle United this summer.

Newcastle wanted to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford but the Magpies were put off by the winger’s £60m asking price.

Howe’s side have been following Mbeumo’s progress for some time, and the same could be said of Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga.

Newcastle have reportedly made several moves for Elanga over the last year or so, a player they would love to come in to replace Miguel Almiron.

Jacob Murphy has been doing a superb job of doing exactly that since January, but Howe needs further options on the right.

Therefore, with Forest wanting £50m for Elanga this summer — another lofty asking price, the Magpies should turn their attention to Chelsea.

Newcastle should launch a bid to sign Noni Madueke

According to The Guardian, Chelsea are ‘open to offers’ for Noni Madueke this summer, and that presents a superb opportunity for Newcastle.

Madueke should be everything Newcastle want — he’s left-footed, thrives on the right and seemingly has a promising England career on the horizon.

It won’t be easy to sign the 23-year-old by any means, even if he has been somewhat made available by Chelsea, but it’s definitely a move Newcastle should be exploring.

Of course, other clubs will be interested in that scenario and TBR Football previously revealed that Tottenham were looking at Madueke.

Newcastle should have more pull than their north London counterparts right now owing to their promising project.

But if Tottenham appoint Thomas Frank to replace Ange Postecoglou, heads might be turned.

Noni Madueke outshines Anthony Gordon for England

As mentioned Madueke was excellent for England during their 1-0 win against Andorra — proving to perhaps be the only positive on the night when Thomas Tuchel’s side should have won more handsomely.

And on the back of that performance, which did come on the left-wing, Roy Keane said Madueke’s movement was ‘excellent’ whilst reflecting on the game for ITV Football.

Madueke won the Player of the Match award and was praised by Keane for a ‘mature’ showing.

Keane said: “Noni Madueke gave a very mature performance. His movement was excellent. He stretched in behind and he played as though he had something to prove.”

Of course Anthony Gordon was on the bench for Tuchel, used as a second half substitute in place of Morgan Rogers.

And perhaps Gordon and Madueke could even play in the same team at Newcastle next season, should the Magpies turn their attention to west London.
