Wolves have had a busy start to the summer, especially regarding players leaving the club – and it’s possible Tommy Doyle could soon be on his way.
It has been a frustrating 2025 for Doyle, who has barely featured under Vitor Pereira.
The Englishman had been struggling for minutes anyway under Gary O’Neil, but him leaving and Pereira coming in has not worked out in his favour.
The Portuguese has been very taken by Joao Gomes and Andre’s partnership, and Doyle just hasn’t had a look in.
As a result of his lack of involvement, speculation has been rife that Doyle could leave Wolves in this window.
And recently, it was suggested that both Sunderland and Wrexham were looking at Doyle with a view to potentially swooping.
And today, there has been a development at Sunderland which Tommy Doyle might find intriguing.

Doyle had hoped to play a lot more in 2024/25, having had a promising loan season.
MORE WOLVES STORIES
But to his frustration, he actually played considerably fewer minutes.
Inevitably, there is now a strong chance he will leave the club – although it’s not currently clear if Wolves will be open to selling, or if they would prefer to loan him out.
Sunderland are keen, and it may now be that they step up their pursuit.

That’s because, today, Fabrizio Romano has reported the club are set to sell Jobe Bellingham to Borussia Dortmund.
He said on X earlier: “EXCL: Jobe Bellingham to Borussia Dortmund, here we go!

Doyle has to leave Wolves
So it’s only a matter of time now until Bellingham is confirmed as a new Dortmund player, and this might just put the wheels in motion for Doyle to move to the Stadium of Light.
And that would potentially be a good next move for Doyle.
He clearly isn’t really fancied by Pereira, who has admitted he’s found it hard leaving Doyle out.
He needs to be playing, and could be starting for many other clubs. So it would be no surprise if he now pushes for a move to the Black Cats.
It will just be interesting to see whether he’d be leaving permanently or on loan.
It’s been suggested that Doyle could cost just £3 million, a valuation that has enraged Wolves fans. Hopefully, Wanderers would ask for much more than that.

Even if Sunderland don’t end up signing Doyle, he surely still has to push for a move away from Molineux this summer.
Doyle has been somewhat unlucky at Wolves to be stuck behind two amazing midfielders in Gomes and Andre.
But, at the same time, he did have some opportunities in 2024/25 but did not take them.
After Wolves lost to Nottingham Forest in January, Pereira publicly criticised Doyle, saying he went ‘missing’.
There were hardly any indications that his situation might improve if he sticks around, so is surely going to be better off playing elsewhere.
