After confirming the capture of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen, Real Madrid are actively working on reinforcing their ranks further.

The club have been linked with players such as Alvaro Carreras and Franco Mastantuono in recent weeks.

However, a recent report suggests Real Madrid are working on a secret signing.

Who is Real Madrid’s secret signing?

According to Diario AS journalist Joaquin Maroto, Real Madrid’s secret signing is playing in the UEFA Nations League final between Spain and Portugal.

Maroto confirms that the player in question is not Nico Williams either, even though the club have been heavily linked with a move for the Spaniard in recent weeks.

With Nico out of the picture, the most likely candidate for Real Madrid’s secret signing is Martin Zubimendi.

Real Madrid have been following Zubimendi’s progress for quite some time now. But earlier in the summer, it was believed that the midfielder would join Arsenal this summer.

However, Zubimendi has been stalling the move to Emirates in recent weeks, which has put Real Madrid on high alert.

Recent reports suggest Real Madrid are preparing a final push to sign the Real Sociedad star, who is considered one of La Liga’s finest midfielders.

Zubimendi’s pursuit also aligns with Real Madrid’s desire to sign a new defensive midfielder, who can prove to be a long-term replacement for Toni Kroos.

However, it will be unwise to just single out Zubimendi as the only candidate. There are other players whom Real Madrid could secretly target.

The likes of Fabian Ruiz, Martin Cucurella and even Bernardo Silva could prove to be strong candidates, even though Real Madrid have not been categorically linked with them in recent memory.
