The Cleveland Browns have a unique quarterback situation heading into 2025.
While Deshaun Watson continues to rehab his twice-torn Achilles tendon, general manager Andrew Berry signed free agent veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett, and spent a third-round pick on Oregon's Dillon Gabriel and a fifth-round pick on Colorado's Shedeur Sanders.
While Flacco is the favorite to start the season under center, he's not a viable long-term solution at age 40. But that shouldn't be a problem with two rookies currently on the roster to progress and evolve in the offense.
But what if none of the four quarterbacks in camp right now are the future?
That's a horrifying possibility, no matter how unlikely. But it's the basis of a ridiculous prediction by NFL SpinZone's Sayre Bedinger. Bedinger writes that not only will Cleveland move on from Gabriel and Sanders after just one season, but they'll go all-in with Clemson's Cade Klubnik with the No. 2 overall pick in next year's NFL Draft.
"The Browns need stability at the quarterback position, and while I have absolutely no skin in the game, I would love to see Shedeur Sanders emerge from that situation," he wrote. "Nothing against Dillon Gabriel, of course. But if the Browns are picking 2nd overall next year, it’s likely that the quarterback position is a big reason why. The Browns won’t be able to pass on a stellar quarterback class if they have this kind of opportunity, so they’re going to need to get a clear look at Sanders (and maybe others) in 2025."
No one is questioning Klubnik's potential in the NFL, but for Cleveland to move on from both draft picks after just one season would be preposterous. Berry might've made some head-scratching moves over the years, but this one might be the one that ends his tenure with the Browns.
