Niclas Fullkrug has had a year to forget since joining West Ham from Borussia Dortmund last summer, and his struggles have continued.
Fullkrug enjoyed a fine Champions League campaign as Dortmund reached the final a year ago, and impressed at Euro 2024 with Germany.
However, it has been a different story at West Ham, as injuries heavily disrupted his campaign, and the 32-year-old’s future is in doubt.
The striker may have hoped for some more positives as he featured for Germany in the UEFA Nations League on Sunday (8 June), but he has now been criticised in his homeland.

Goals from Michael Olise and Kylian Mbappe sunk the Germans, but Fullkrug also had a day to forget upfront in a poor display.
Fullkrug has now been criticised in the German media following his display, with Sky Sports Germany giving him a 4/10 match rating, but did point out that he was “unlucky” at times during the game.
The same article stated that it was “annoying” he fouled an opposition player to deny his side what would have been a goal.

Sport1 gave him a 5/10 rating, but they claimed that he went hiding in the first half, before coming alive in the second, but few chances were created for him.
Get Football News Germany were more generous with their 6/10 rating, but it was still an ineffectual performance from Fullkrug in a big game.

Fullkrug fighting for West Ham future
It has been a very difficult year for Fullkrug, who has managed just three goals in 20 games across all competitions for West Ham, with his last strike coming on 5 April.
At 32, Fullkrug is running out of time to impress, and with Graham Potter in the market for a striker this summer, he could be axed just a year after moving to East London.
If Fullkrug remains at the London Stadium and improves his fitness, he could be a useful squad asset, but as it stands it appears unlikely that he will nail down a starting spot as a number nine for West Ham.
