Manchester United have ‘more contact’ over Viktor Gyokeres, Fabrizio Romano provides latest update

Manchester United are firmly in the mix to sign Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres, and want to be kept in the loop.

Viktor Gyokeres is still part of Manchester United’s transfer plans as the club continue to work on strengthening the attack.

Gyokeres, 27, played under Ruben Amorim at Sporting and scored 66 goals in 68 games for the Manchester United boss.

His overall tally stands at a staggering 97 goals in 102 games for Sporting, and Manchester United are considering a move to solve the club’s problematic striker role.

Manchester United’s defeat in the Europa League Final led most fans to believe that the chances of signing Viktor Gyokeres had gone.

But the Swedish forward has not jumped at a move elsewhere, and remains at Sporting, considering his options.

The Ruben Amorim connection gives Manchester United a strong chance, and there is serious interest from the Red Devils.

Fabrizio Romano tells Give Me Sport that Manchester United have held ‘more contacts’ with associated parties in connection with a deal, to keep on top of the situation.

He explains: “Manchester United had more contacts with all parties involved in Gyokeres deal this week, to understand how the situation was developing for the Swedish striker.”

Clarifying United’s interest, he continued: “It means Manchester United remain in the race and are currently informed on every step of the story, as they’re also aware of Italian clubs exploring the situation for Gyokeres.”

It’s also notable this is not United’s first contact. The club appear to have been paying attention to the striker’s situation every step of the way.

Manchester United and Viktor Gyokeres interest is mutual

This past week it emerged Viktor Gyokeres is ‘very keen’ on a move to Manchester United, with the comments made by Ben Jacobs speaking to The United Stand.

“My understanding is that Viktor Gyokeres would be very keen on a move to Man United if they could pull that off, financially speaking,” he said.

TalkSPORT has claimed Ruben Amorim has remained in close contact with Gyokeres, who would cost around £60 million.

United have signed Matheus Cunha and are looking to add Bryan Mbeumo, but are on the lookout too for a main centre-forward.

The Cunha deal is being paid in instalments, and if United can do so for Mbeumo too, this provides greater fluidity to pull off a deal for Gyokeres.

United had been linked to Liam Delap, but Ruben Amorim always wanted a proven striker, and Gyokeres could be the superior option.
