Kieran Tierney Withdraws from Scotland Squad with Injury Ahead of Celtic Return

The defender, who is due to officially return to Celtic in July following the expiry of his Arsenal contract, trained with his teammates after the Iceland defeat.

It’s a frustrating way to finish the campaign for Tierney, who had started to find rhythm again late in the season with Arsenal, including a goal in their final Premier League match. He was expected to play a prominent role for Steve Clarke’s side in this international window as they continue preparations for next summer’s tournament.

From a Celtic perspective, the timing of the injury, while not ideal, is somewhat softened by the fact that it’s the close season. With several weeks until the squad reports for training, there remains plenty of time for recovery.

Kieran Tierney’s return to Celtic has been met with widespread excitement among supporters. He will link up with Brendan Rodgers’ side officially in July after the club confirmed a pre-contract agreement in their interim financial report.

The hope now is that the injury is nothing more than a minor setback as he prepares for a new chapter back at Parkhead.
