Lewandowski drops bombshell and quits Poland duty

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has announced he’s quitting international duty with Poland while Michel Probierz remains in charge.

Lewandowski pulled out of Poland’s most recent World Cup qualifiers, claiming he’s physically and mentally exhausted, but has now said he won’t play again unless there’s a change in coach.

Here’s what Lewandowski has posted on social media:

“Considering the circumstances and the loss of trust in the coach of the Polish National Team, I decided to resign from playing in the Polish National Team while he is the coach. I hope that I will be able to play for the best fans in the world again.”

The news comes after Probierz announced Lewandowski was no longer the captain of Poland and that Piotr Zieliński will wear the armband instead.

Lewandowski has come in for criticism back in Poland for missing the most recent games, but his announcement will still come as a shock, and it remains to be seen if he will play international football again.
