Laporta wants to sign Alvarez to be Lewandowski’s successor at Barca

Barcelona president Joan Laporta is reportedly hoping to sign Julian Alvarez next year as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

The Polish striker will turn 37 this summer and is heading into the final year of his contract at Barcelona.

According to Carrusel, Laporta is already thinking about how to replace the prolific striker and wants Alvarez to take over.

Alvarez’s agent has raised eyebrows this week by making it clear the striker would love to play for Barcelona at some point in the future.

Yet any transfer would not be easy to complete. Relations are pretty good between Barca and Atletico, but Alvarez’s release clause currently stands at around 500 million euros.

However, Barcelona will need to start thinking about a replacement for Lewandowski sooner rather than later.

Deco has admitted the club aren’t searching for a new No. 9 this summer, but there’s no doubt the position will become a priority as Lewandowski nears the end of his contract.
