Fee reduced–Man Utd now have to agree£33.7million deal to sign midfielder

Ederson Atalanta

Manchester United have been linked with Brazilian international and Atalanta midfielder, Ederson dos Santos for quite some time, and the latest reports are intriguing.

Last month, GMS revealed that the Red Devils are pushing to lure the Samba star, who would cost around £50million. However, the latest update coming from Italy indicate that he can be bought for a reduced fee.

As per La Gazzetta Dello Sport, Ederson, Lookman and Retegui are wanted men in the transfer market.

The Bergamo side do not want to sell the trio but if the price is right, i.e. as low as 40 million euros (£33.7million), then they would be allowed to leave.

Man Utd have ‘come close’ to Ederson in the past but La Dea refused to sell. He is also on the radar of Newcastle and Manchester City and this summer, ‘the offensive of the Premier League is expected’.

The 25-year-old midfielder’s contract with the Italian Serie A club will expire in 2027 and in all fairness, £33.7million fee should be considered as a bargain as he has been top class in the last two campaigns.

Situation at Old Trafford:

Manchester United need to reinforce the defensive midfield position at Old Trafford.

Casemiro has been average since his first season at the club and the veteran Brazilian, who will turn 34 next year, must be sold.

On the other hand, United splashed the cash to sign Manuel Ugarte last summer, however, the Uruguayan international failed to shine in his first season in England.

Ederson is a versatile talent, who can effectively feature in the No.6 and No.8 roles and tirelessly works in the center of the park.

He was a key member of the Atalanta squad that won the Europa League title in the 2023-24 season and was brilliant again last term as Gasperini’s men earned third place in the Serie A.

Have your say – Should Man Utd agree a deal worth £33.7million to sign Ederson?
