Chelsea have made their move in the transfer market, submitting an official bid to sign AC Milan’s elite goalkeeper Mike Maignan, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The 29-year-old French international has emerged as Chelsea’s top goalkeeping target this summer. After his breakout season at Lille—where he kept 21 clean sheets and led them to the Ligue 1 title—Maignan has continued to impress in Italy, winning Serie A with Milan and lifting the Italian Super Cup.
Now, Chelsea want him to anchor their goalkeeping department. Romano reports that the Blues have tabled a formal £12 million bid for Maignan, while Italian sources claim the player has already agreed personal terms—a six-year deal worth £7m per year.
Maresca’s Mission: A New No.1
Incoming head coach Enzo Maresca inherits a crowded goalkeeper department, including Robert Sanchez, Djordje Petrovic, and promising teenager Mike Penders. With Kepa Arrizabalaga set for a permanent switch to Arsenal, Maignan would be a clear upgrade and bring leadership to a youthful squad.
Standing at 6ft 3in, Maignan isn’t just experienced—he’s a proven winner. As Chelsea prepare for their Champions League return and the Club World Cup, signing a reliable presence between the posts could be a game-changer.
While Milan are yet to respond to Chelsea’s bid, all signs point towards a Stamford Bridge switch. And for a club chasing silverware, landing Maignan would be a major statement of intent.
