Everton are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window, with the club already confirming the movement of several players. The ECHO understands the Blues are prioritising a right-back, right winger, midfielder and a striker this summer and if they get those positions boxed off then they could move on to other positions.

Everton have already confirmed their first signing since manager David Moyes returned, with loan player Carlos Alcaraz’s loan deal from Flamengo being turned into a permanent switch for an undisclosed fee, understood to be reaching £13million if certain conditions are met, on May 31.

The Argentinian midfielder, who had a previous spell in England with Southampton, made 16 appearances for the Blues after arriving on deadline day of the winter window, scoring twice and providing three assists.

Speaking on his return to the Premier League, ahead of Everton’s first test event at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium, Alcaraz said: “I was happy during my time in Brazil with Flamengo, but stuff happened that involved other people and not directly me. I know that the loan deal will end at the end of the season but I need to stay calm and perform at a good level.

“Then when it finishes I can see if I’m able to carry on here. I’d like to continue playing here for a long time.

“I wanted to come because I already knew the Premier League and it’s the best league in the game. The only challenge I wanted was to come and play for a big club like Everton.

“I have a lot of self-confidence and belief and I know the potential that I have as a player. The only way I know is to trust in my ability to play at my best in the best leagues against top sides, so the decision was based upon that, coming back and continuing to show what I can do.

“There was actually contact and interest before I went to Brazil, it didn’t come off in the end, it didn’t work out, but I was really pleased that a Premier League club and especially one of the stature and importance of Everton had shown that interest. The interest resuscitated during my time in Brazil and through that initial interest and the subsequent interest I didn’t need any convincing.”

Everton have confirmed that Abdoulaye Doucoure, Ashley Young, Joao Virginia and Asmir Begovic will all depart the club at the end of this month when their current contracts expire. Moyes has stated that he wants to retain club captain Seamus Coleman while Idrissa Gueye, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Michael Keane are also due to come to the end of their deals but no announcement has been made on any of them.

Meanwhile, Jack Harrison (Leeds United), Jesper Lindstrom (Napoli), Orel Mangala (Olympique Lyonnais) and Armando Broja (Chelsea) have all returned to their respective parent clubs following loan spells at Everton in 2024/25.

Speaking ahead of Everton’s trip to Chelsea in April, Moyes admitted it would be impossible to turn the Blues around in a single transfer window and said: “A lot is dependent on, can we get Joe Bloggs to come and sign? That’s what we are waiting on and that’s the point we are at. “We obviously will keep some players, but others might be released. We’re trying to get a balance of that. “It will be very hard to change this in one window. In fact, it will be impossible just about. If you’ve got 11 coming out of contract, that is too much.”
