Jordan Pickford may find Everton's latest transfer rumour a little bit weird - opinion

Everton are looking to do their transfer business quickly this summer.

David Moyes and his Everton chiefs are moving at pace, with several targets already identified and contacted.

The Toffees are in talks to sign Ben Doak from Liverpool, whilst a deal to sign Villarreal’s Thierno Barry is advancing.

Jack Grealish is also on Moyes’ radar after Pep Guardiola brutally excluded him from Manchester City’s Club World Cup squad.

A fresh transfer rumour has emerged over the last 24 hours, and this one may come as a bit of a surprise to Jordan Pickford.

Jordan Pickford may find Everton’s interest in Michael Cooper strange

There’s no doubt that Pickford will be Everton’s number one next season after yet another impressive season between the sticks.

Pickford remains England’s first-choice, too, with many considering him one of the best in the Premier League.

So, that makes it surprising that Everton are reportedly interested in signing goalkeeper Michael Cooper, who was a standout performer for Sheffield United last season.

Cooper was actually voted Blades’ Player of the Year following a bargain £2m switch from Plymouth Argyle.

The 24-year-old would command a pretty sizable fee and one not usually seen for a number two shot-stopper.

So, with that said, Pickford may feel a little odd about the rumour, with Moyes seemingly eyeing his long-term successor.

Pickford still has at least three years left at the top level

Everton should be in no rush to sign Pickford’s long-term replacement, with the England international only recently celebrating his 31st birthday.

The former Sunderland keeper still has at least three seasons left at the top level, and some would argue this is a footballer’s prime years.

Anyhow, it’s understood Cooper doesn’t want to leave Bramall Lane to sit on the bench, so that transfer is unlikely.

The Toffees do need a number two, of course, with Joao Virginia and Asmir Begovic departing, but there’s not really a case to shell out a fortune on one.
