Manchester United XI when Bruno Fernandes made his debut shows how much has changed, only two teammates remain

Bruno Fernandes is sticking around at Manchester United for another year at least.

Amid serious interest from mega-rich Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal, Bruno Fernandes has decided to stay at Manchester United.

Fernandes announced his intention to stay, admitting head coach Ruben Amorim helped persuade him to stay put at Old Trafford.

United fans were thrilled with Fernandes’ decision, with the club captain showing his commitment to lead Amorim’s rebuild.

Fernandes has been at United since 2020 when he signed for the club for an initial £46.6 million, rising with add-ons. A lot has changed since his arrival.

Manchester United XI on Bruno Fernandes debut

Bruno Fernandes signed for Manchester United in the January transfer window in 2020. He signed 24 hours before the deadline, and went straight into the starting XI.

The former Sporting star started at Old Trafford on February 1, 2020, a game that ended up being a frustrating 0-0 draw against Wolves.

United dominated possession with 64 per cent but were unable to break Wolves down, managing only five shots on target. Fernandes was voted man of the match for his efforts.

Only two teammates remain for Bruno Fernandes from Manchester United’s starters: Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire. Victor Lindelof has now been released.

De Gea; Shaw, Maguire, Lindelof, Wan-Bissaka; Fred, Pereira, Fernandes, James, Mata, Martial.

From the seven substitutes, only one player is still at the club, Fernandes’ international colleague Diogo Dalot.

Romero, Jones, Williams, Dalot, Lingard, Greenwood, Chong.

The changes should not come as a big surprise, as there have been frequent switches in the dugout too during Fernandes’ tenure.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was the manager then, and he has been followed by Ralf Rangnick, Erik ten Hag and now Ruben Amorim. Fernandes has also played under caretakers Michael Carrick and Ruud van Nistelrooy. It certainly has not been smooth sailing.

Bruno Fernandes’ games and goals for Manchester United

Despite the ups and downs during Bruno Fernandes’ tenure at Manchester United, and an often chaotic backdrop, he has been a model of consistency for the club.

This past season he also overtook Paul Ince (281), Andy Cole (275), Norman Whiteside (274) and Edwin van der Sar (266).

Fernandes is also closing in on a major milestone for the club. He has 98 goals, one behind Bryan Robson’s 99, and two shy of the impressive figure of 100.

Only 22 players in the club’s history have scored 100 goals or more for Manchester United. Wayne Rooney is the record scorer with 253.

This past season Fernandes overtook Anthony Martial (90), David Beckham (85), and Eric Cantona (82).
