PSG star tempted by Manchester United move as Ruben Amorim eyes squad rebuild: Reports

close

Gianluigi Donnarumma is reportedly considering a move to Manchester United, as his future with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) remains uncertain. According to French outlet L'Equipe (via Metro), the Italian goalkeeper and the Red Devils have been in talks for months, but a positive outcome has yet to be reached.

The report added that Donnarumma is keen to make a Premier League switch after he failed to commit his future to the newly crowned European Champions. The former AC Milan goalkeeper has also discussed a potential move to England with his Italian teammates.

Donnarumma's contract with the Ligue 1 giants will expire next summer. Les Parisians were confident about extending the Italian goalkeeper's stay at Parc des Princes. However, the 26-year-old has thwarted all the extension attempts made by Luis Enrique's side so far.

As a result, other clubs are looking forward to capitalizing on the opportunity and signing the Italian goalkeeper. Manchester United are keen on signing Gianluigi Donnarumma as a replacement for Andre Onana, who had an inconsistent 2024-25 season at Old Trafford.

Manchester City are also interested in bringing the former AC Milan goalkeeper to the Premier League. They view Donnarumma as a long-term replacement for Ederson.

Former Manchester United boss names two players the Red Devils must sell this summer

Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen has advised the Old Trafford outfit to offload Alejandro Garnacho and Antony this summer.

Meulensteen billed Brazilian attacker Antony 'selfish' while claiming that he's not good enough for the Red Devils. He told Tipman Tips (via the Mirror):

"I won't bring Antony back because I've seen enough of him that he's not cut out for the club and not good enough. His performances are fuelled by his personality and are not for the good of the team, he's selfish."

The former Manchester United coach has a similar opinion about Argentina's Alejandro Garnacho. Meulensteen opined that the 20-year-old has attitude issues, which is not beneficial for the team. Confident that Garnacho won't live up to his potential at Old Trafford, the Dutch coach wants United to offload him and cut their losses.

Meulensteen said:

"Garnahco is the same as Antony. Yes, he's a young boy, but, personality-wise, some things are not right with him, and he's bad for the club. That shows in his performances and lack of consistency."

"He's a young player who has good value to him, so if they were to get offered any sort of money, they should cut their losses, because he isn't going to live up to his potential at Old Trafford, and that can free up some money to spend elsewhere," he added.

Alejandro Garnacho is linked with Serie A champions Napoli over a potential move this summer. Meanwhile, a few Italian sides are also interested in securing the Spanish winger's services.
