Everton are chasing Villarreal forward Thierno Barry as they look for a solution to their attacking woes.

David Moyes is desperate for reinforcements to his forward line after a miserable campaign in front of goal for the Blues.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future is uncertain with his contract expiring at the end of the month, and Beto cannot be relied upon to score consistently.

Therefore, the Toffees will turn to the transfer market to address their concerns, having already failed to beat Chelsea to the signing of Liam Delap.

The failure to nab Delap from Stamford Bridge’s clutches will have been a huge blow for Moyes, but the Blues are moving on to alternative targets quickly.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

Marca has reported in its print edition (9 June, page 18) that the Merseysiders are ready to “break in strongly” to sign Barry and look set to bid up to the £33.7million release clause.

It states that the decision on a transfer will ultimately be down to the striker himself, if the Toffees meet the clause in his contract.

Barry would be a great signing for Everton

The 22-year-old notched 16 goals and four assists in 40 matches for the Yellows after his move from Basel in August 2024.

The France Under-21 international is strong in the air, fast, a quality ball carrier and perhaps most importantly, he knows where the back of the net is.

Moyes has bravely spoken about his desire to qualify for European football next season, and he has to be backed by the Friedkin Group to sign top-quality additions to achieve that goal.

Adding a potent striker like Barry into the mix would certainly help reach that goal, as the Blues were the fourth-lowest scorers in the Premier League this season, with only the three relegated teams scoring fewer goals, which is a damning indictment of the current options in the squad.

There would be question marks over whether the young Frenchman can adapt to the English game, but he is worth the gamble, given that he has shown an ability to adapt quickly to Spanish football and his future potential.
