Arsenal are said to be making some progress in their bid to complete a striker signing this summer.
Arsenal are said to have been handed a big boost in their bid to land their primary attacking target this summer. The Gunners need a new striker this summer, and it appears as though they have settled on RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko.
It’s no secret that Mikel Arteta has been an admirer of Sesko for some time, with Arsenal having been heavily linked with the Slovenian in the past. It’s time for the rubber to meet the road when it comes to Arsenal’s interest, with a striker signing a must for Arteta this summer, and if he and Andrea Berta wind up signing an alternative, the links with Sesko will likely be over for at least a couple of years.
But Sesko is indeed the priority target, and there are reports aplenty claiming that Arsenal are making their move, already in talks with RB Leipzig over a deal. It will take some time to rattle out the details, and Arsenal are going to have to meet a big asking price to get the deal done, but there is good news.
According to Florian Plettenberg, Sesko is keen on a deal to the Emirates Stadium. Plettenberg posted on X: “Benjamin #Sesko is now keen on a move to Arsenal! Negotiations with the player are progressing positively. There has been clear progress in discussions over personal terms, but no full verbal agreement has been reached yet. Arsenal have also not submitted an official offer to RB Leipzig. The atmosphere between all parties is very fair and transparent. Deal ON!”
That will be a huge relief to Arsenal fans, who are desperate to see the club finally get a striker this summer. The Gunners are very short-handed at the top end of the pitch, and Gabriel Jesus will be sidelined until towards the end of 2025. That leaves Kai Havertz as the sole option, and that is not sufficient ahead of another big Premier League and Champions League campaign.
Sesko chase up to now
Speaking about his future just before the end of the season, Sesko told German reporters: “I'm now focusing on the final games until the end of the season, and then we'll see what happens. Anything can happen. But, for now, I'm 100 percent focused on Leipzig, especially on these last two games.”
He added in a separate interview with the Leipzig website: "It's not on my mind right now. I'm only focusing on the here and now. I'm an RB Leipzig player and my focus is fully on our last two Bundesliga games. You have to give your best until the last minute if you want to be successful. That's what we're going to do."
Arsenal were linked with a loan deal for Sesko in January, but Sesko’s agent denied the discussions, telling GiveMeSport: "I have never talked with Arsenal about a loan move for Sesko. Sesko is not a player for loans and this was never a topic with Arsenal or any other club. If you ask me if Sesko will move in January, I can only say Sesko is a RB Leipzig player and fully focused on that."
Now that the season is over, Sesko’s time to move on appears to have arrived, and Arsenal are looking to get their man.
