Harvey Elliott is preparing for a critical summer as the Liverpool midfielder openly admits he needs to evaluate his next steps after a frustrating season at Anfield.
The 22-year-old made just 18 Premier League appearances last season, with only two starts, both coming after the Reds had already secured the league title.
Across all competitions, Elliott tallied five goals and three assists in 822 minutes of action, a significant drop from his 53 appearances and 27 starts the previous year.
Now, as he joins England’s U21 squad for the European Championship in Slovakia, Elliott has revealed that conversations about his future at Liverpool are inevitable.

Harvey Elliott reflects on his limited role and future options
Speaking candidly about his situation (via Hayters), Elliott said:
“I’m coming into an age now where I’m 22, going to be 23 next season. I don’t really want to be wasting years on my career because it’s a short career. You don’t know what’s going to happen.”
The midfielder added that he remains devoted to Liverpool but must prioritize his development:
“Nothing makes me want to leave. I love the club, I love the fans, the team. I support them as well. But most importantly, it’s just about what’s best for my career.”
Elliott also admitted that after returning from a foot injury in December, he had hoped to regain a more prominent role.
His goal against PSG in the Champions League last 16 had seemed like a potential turning point, but further opportunities did not materialise.
Liverpool’s ongoing pursuit of Florian Wirtz is likely to add another layer of competition for attacking midfield places.
If the Leverkusen star arrives, Elliott’s pathway to regular starts could narrow even further. Yet, the young midfielder’s mindset remains positive:
“I just want to improve and be the best possible version of myself. If that’s to go somewhere else, then it’s a decision I’m going to have to make. I need to see what happens.”
Elliott joined Liverpool from Fulham at 17 and still holds the ambition to succeed at Anfield.
But this summer, he will have a major decision to make about where he can best progress his career.
