Diogo Dalot and Cristiano Ronaldo both send powerful messages after Portugal’s Nations League final win vs Spain

Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot and Al Nassr skipper Cristiano Ronaldo both reacted to Portugal lifting the Nations League trophy after their win over Spain.

Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes have both been away from Old Trafford after being called up by Portugal boss Roberto Martinez for international duty.

The two aforementioned Manchester United players linked up with Red Devils legend Cristiano Ronaldo and the trio have enjoyed success in the Nations League.

Portugal punched their ticket to the final of the Nations League campaign after Roberto Martinez’s men defeated Germany 2-1 at the Allianz Arena last Wednesday.

Following Portugal’s semi-final win in the Nations League last week, Spain ensured their place in the final last Thursday after a thrilling 5-4 semi-final win over France.

Spain and Portugal met in the final on Sunday and Martinez’s side came out on top with a penalty shootout victory at the Allianz Arena in Germany.

Spain, who were crowned Euro 2024 champions last summer, placed Portugal on the back foot ahead of half-time after Mikel Oyarzabal put his side 2-1 up on the night.

Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo made his presence felt in the second half and the Al Nassr superstar found Portugal’s crucial equaliser in the 61st minute.

The 2-2 scoreline at the Allianz Arena in Germany forced the Nations League final to extra time before Spain and Portugal settled the match on penalties on Sunday.

Diogo Dalot took to social media after Portugal’s match and shared a photo of him kissing the Nations League trophy, with the United star adding a powerful message.

“The first kiss is never forgotten,” he wrote on Instagram, adding a smirking emoji alongside an emoji of the Portugal flag.

“Very happy for my first trophy for Portugal.”

Ronaldo shared a photo of himself lifting the Nations League trophy and, much like former United teammate Dalot, shared his excitement over Portugal’s win.

The 40-year-old Portugal captain wrote the message of “E NOSSA [sic]” alongside his Instagram photo, which translates from Portuguese to English as ‘it’s ours.’

What happened in the penalty shootout between Portugal and Spain in the 2025 Nations League final at the Allianz Arena?

All five of Portugal’s spot-kick takers converted their penalties in the Nations League final, with United captain Bruno Fernandes among the players to score.

Spain, on the other hand, scored from their opening three penalties before Alvaro Morata failed to convert the 2024 Euro Champions’ fourth spot-kick effort.

Ruben Neves stepped up for the final penalty for Portugal and ensured that Roberto Martinez’s men clinched the Nations League trophy at the Allianz Arena in Germany.

The Nations League title is Martinez’s first silverware as Portugal manager after he replaced Fernando Santos in 2023, following the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
