Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future at Everton is uncertain, with his contract expiring at the end of June.

The striker struggled with injury yet again throughout the campaign, making 26 Premier League appearances this term.

With David Moyes looking to refresh his Toffees side in preparation for their move to Bramley-Moore Dock, this leaves plenty of questions over whether there is a future on Merseyside for Calvert-Lewin.

Calvert-Lewin makes admission about future at Everton

Although Calvert-Lewin has previously been a reliable figure in Blue, his recent seasons have been nowhere near good enough.

Although injury can count for some of his disappointment, scoring just three goals in the number of games he played is not acceptable.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

There have been discussions surrounding a potential extension of the striker’s deal on Merseyside, although as it stands, the end of the month sees the relationship between the parties cease to exist.

As Moyes looks to bring life back to Everton, letting go of Calvert-Lewin at this stage could be the smart move.

However, the likes of Newcastle United and Manchester United are said to be interested in his services, which could suggest a late deal is worth striking.

The Sheffield-born player did not give much away when he was asked about his situation on the High Performance podcast (9 June), as he said: “Surprisingly, I’m okay. You would think that maybe there’s a lot of uncertainty around it, and I’m effectively unemployed in six weeks’ time.

“But it’s alright. It’s a new situation for me, new scenario, a place that I’ve never been before and look, I have to be careful what I say because I’m still contracted to Everton and I’ve got a long history with Everton and a big respect for the club and it’s largely a lot of what I know in my adult life.

“But I think my family keeps me grounded. I can’t necessarily control what’s going to happen, so why? I can’t give too much thought. My biggest focus has been getting back fit, getting back on the pitch.”

Everton to part ways with Calvert-Lewin

In retrospect, Everton probably shouldn’t have allowed Calvert-Lewin’s contract to run down this way, as it does leave the Toffees in a sticky position.

Being able to cash in would have been a big boost for a side who are looking to increase their investment in the squad this season.

However, the striker is at the end of his contract and extending at this stage seems a bit of a risk that is unnecessary taking.

Not only has the forward struggled with fitness and goals in recent seasons, but he is not the profile that Moyes is looking for in new signings this summer either.

Calvert-Lewin hasn’t given away too much about his future, but it doesn’t seem as though any talks are too positive at this stage, suggesting an exit is more likely.
