Manchester United have been told “they’ve got to go for it” if there is a chance to sign Emi Martinez from Aston Villa this summer.
Martinez’s future at Villa Park is in the spotlight, with the World Cup-winner refusing to rule out leaving the club.
Speaking on international duty with Argentina after the end of Villa’s season, Martínez stated: "My future? I don't know. I'm here to play for the national team, and that's all I care about right now.
"Do I want to change clubs? The transfer market has just opened, so there's still a lot to do.”
There is also speculation over the future of United’s No.1 Andre Onana - and former Red Devils goalkeeper Ben Foster thinks United boss Ruben Amorim should seize any chance to sign Martinez from Villa to replace Onana.
Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “It’s a brutal league, the Premier League, and I kind of think the last two seasons that he (Onana) hasn’t done enough to prove that he is a Manchester United number one.
“I think he’s got ability, and like so many other Man United players, he’d go elsewhere and probably flourish. I think that’s probably going to be the case with him as well.
“If the opportunity does come to sign somebody like Emi Martinez, they’ve got to go for it. He’s still one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
“A lot of people said this season, probably not up to the standard of the previous two years, but still one of the best goalkeepers in the world.”
