A young Liverpool player shares insights on why this season has been his most challenging yet.
22-year-old Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton revealed his true feelings about the 2024/25 season.
The defensive midfielder indicated that his first season under new Liverpool boss Arne Slot was his “toughest season mentally.”
Morton served two consecutive loan spells — at Championship sides Hull City in the 23/24 season and Blackburn Rovers in 22/23. He also admitted that if he had gone out on another loan, it could have been even worse for him.
The English youngster appeared just five times for the Reds in the club’s Premier League title-winning 2024/25 season. However, he got 0 appearances in the Premier League. He featured in 3 EFL Cup games, 1 FA Cup match, 1 UEFA Champions League game, and 1 EFL Trophy appearance.
His season ended early after undergoing shoulder surgery in February.
The midfielder expressed his opinions in an interview with the Daily Mail.

What Tyler Morton said about his 24/25 season with Liverpool
The youngster said: “I think it’s been the toughest season mentally for me. Obviously, I’ve coped with it very well because I’ve got good people around me, but it’s been very tough. I think I’ve coped with it as well as I possibly could. I think when you’re not playing as a footballer who’s as hungry as I am, it does hurt.”
He also added: “It’s tough, especially when, in my opinion, I wanted to go out and I wanted to play and I wanted to go on loan and get my game time. But having chatted with the manager, having to stay — it could have worked out a lot worse than it did. It probably could have worked out a lot better than it did. It’s still been a good season. I’ve still developed and, as you said, I still feel really sharp and really ready to go.”
Finally, Morton stated: “Yes, the minutes have been very limited for all of us youngsters this year. But that’s just… there’s different playing styles with different managers. And yes, it’s been a learning season. I think you’ve got to have these types of seasons where you’re trying to learn and I think it’s been massive for us.”
Morton has now been called up for the England U21 squad for the U21 Euros in Slovakia, which begins on Wednesday.
