As the Brentford boss edges closer to the Tottenham job, fans will love what Thomas Frank had to say about the Spurs players when the pair faced each other last season.
Tottenham Hotspur slumped to their worst-ever Premier League finish last season, ending the campaign in 17th place, as the Lilywhites lost 22 matches and conceded 65 goals across 38 games in a dismal showing.
Remaining competitive in the Premier League is often the bare minimum expected of any Spurs manager, a sentiment echoed by Tim Sherwood, who sent a clear message to the next Tottenham boss tipped to replace Ange Postecoglou following the Australian’s dismissal.
It is widely believed that Brentford manager Thomas Frank, who guided his side to a finish seven places above Postecoglou’s Tottenham, is set to take the reins in north London.
A former Sky Sports reporter has even gone as far as to confirm that the Thomas Frank to Spurs deal is all but done.

Thomas Frank praised Tottenham squad despite Brentford defeat
Some Tottenham fans were left stunned by the club’s decision to part ways with Ange Postecoglou, especially given that he remains the only manager to deliver silverware for Spurs in the past 17 years.

However, with Thomas Frank now heavily linked with the Spurs job, a video clip has emerged showing the Brentford manager offering glowing praise to Tottenham’s squad, following a defeat to them earlier this year.
Speaking after Brentford’s 2-0 loss to Spurs in February, Frank delivered a detailed and honest assessment of the quality in the Tottenham side, despite their troubles throughout the season.
Thomas Frank said about the Tottenham squad: “I think that is a big expectation. I know they have not had the best season, but if you look at their line-up, just take their front three, I think a lot of clubs would have taken them in a day.
“Their midfield – Dejan Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma – that is a very, very, very good Premier League midfield.
“And then I know they have not had a centre-back, maybe Archie Gray and Ben Davies played the best defensive game of the season. So, Pedro Porro is fantastic at right back, he has got Trentish offensive qualities and Djed Spence has done well.
“Kinksy, so we cannot expect… if we expect that, then there is something wrong with our fans. In the Premier League, it is difficult every game.”
Frank’s Spurs admiration could soon become a reality
Thomas Frank’s admiration for Tottenham Hotspur appears to stretch back further than many fans may have realised, as it was revealed by a member of his coaching staff on 8 June that the 51-year-old has long been fond of the north London club.
He said: “Tottenham has always been my favourite club. At Brentford, we always joked that if we were going to move on from Brentford, it would be for Tottenham.
“It is a club that has had some challenges over the past season and there is quite a bit of work ahead of them. But Thomas deserves that chance. He has done a fantastic job.”
Those private jokes now look set to materialise, as reports indicate Frank has held multiple talks with Daniel Levy, and Spurs have now set a deadline for this week to confirm the new appointment.
