Newcastle United name staggering asking price for 22 y/o as Man City show interest

Newcastle United are keen to keep Tino Livramento at St James’ Park amid reported Manchester City interest.

Newcastle United have reportedly slapped a £70million asking price on Tino Livramento’s head to keep Manchester City at bay.

Pep Guardiola is understood to have highlighted the 22-year-old as the long-term successor to Kyle Walker. Livramento played 45 times for the Magpies last season as Eddie Howe’s men qualified for the Champions League and won the Carabao Cup.

Starting the season at right-back, the former Chelsea academy product switched flanks once Lewis Hall suffered a season-ending injury. Livramento arguably performed better, with the experienced Kieran Trippier pinning down his usual spot.

Man City register Tino Livramento interest

It is no secret that Man City are undergoing a summer rebuild following their poor campaign. Right-back is a key area to strengthen as Walker’s future looks to move on and Guardiola preferably wants someone before the Club World Cup.

However, a move for Livramento appears unlikely as Newcastle are unwilling to budge on their £70million valuation. PSR headroom has eased at St James’ Park and, with three years remaining on his contract, the Magpies are in no desperate need to sell.

Sky Sports reported that Juventus right-back Andrea Cambiaso is an alternative target. Liverpool were rumoured to be watching the Italian before signing Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen.

‘A massive future’ - Lee Carsley

England under-21s manager Lee Carsley expects Livramento to develop into an important player for the senior squad. He said at the weekend: “Tino is a top player. An excellent player. Tino’s had some injuries in the past which held him back.

“Without those injuries, I think he would have been a lot further ahead now than where he is in terms of pushing for a senior position (for England). Tino is highly rated, both on and off the pitch. The fact that he can play two, three positions is a huge bonus.

“I remember the first camp I ever had with Tino was an under-20s one. I might have played him on the right wing. He always turns up with so much enthusiasm. I expect him to have a massive future with the senior team.

Eddie Howe angered by speculation

An angry Howe was irked when asked about Man City’s reported interest last month. He told reporters: "We want to keep our best players. I think I've made that very clear. That's not just the wish from me.

“That's the wish from everyone at the club. I don't have a crystal ball. I can't sit here and say what's going to happen. I can only say what my determination is, and it is to build a team, the best team possible - and to do that you can't consistently lose your best players."
