Report: Player Guardiola called 'important' will now leave Man City, Viana set to bid for…

Manchester City are already about to lose an established figure in Kevin De Bruyne.

De Bruyne is expected to join Napoli when his Manchester City contract officially expires at the end of June, after a decade at the Etihad Stadium.

Now, another influential figure – behind the scenes at least – is set to follow the Belgian out of Manchester City in Scott Carson, and Hugo Viana already has a replacement lined up for Pep Guardiola in Marcus Bettinelli.

Manchester City ready to bid for Marcus Bettinelli as Scott Carson leaves

The Telegraph now state that the 39-year-old will leave Manchester City when his contract expires at the end of the month, after six years with the Citizens.

Carson has made just two appearances under Guardiola – one coming in the Premier League, and the other in the UEFA Champions League – as the Englishman deputises for Ederson and Stefan Ortega.

However, Manchester City have decided to make a change in the goalkeeper department, as the man born in Whitehaven nears his 40th birthday.

The Telegraph explain that Bettinelli is viewed as a perfect option by the Citizens, given the fact he would help the homegrown quota, and is familiar with the role of being a third choice goalkeeper, a job he has done at Stamford Bridge since 2021.

Manchester City hope to have an agreement in place for the 33-year-old before the start of the FIFA Club World Cup, which begins on Sunday 14th June.

Why Pep Guardiola will like Marcus Bettinelli as Hugo Viana prepares offer

Guardiola may have only used Carson twice, but the Spaniard loved what the experienced glovesman offered in the dressing room.

In March 2022, the 54-year-old said: “He is very important to us behind the scenes. His chemistry with Ederson and Zack Steffen is fundamental in the locker room. People listen when he speaks.”

Bettinelli seems to be a similar character.

The Telegraph write that the man from Camberwell often pushes his Chelsea teammates in training, an act which has not gone unnoticed by several managers in west London.

Therefore, the Londoner will by no means be coming to Manchester City to put his feet up, as he is clearly a demanding goalkeeper, regardless of how little football he is expected to play.
