A special and historic welcome gift could be enough to tempt Viktor Gyokeres to Old Trafford once and for all.

The Sweden international has reportedly emerged as Ruben Amorim's top striker target this summer as Man United hope to make amends for the disappointments of last season.

He has risen to prominence in recent years as one of Europe's most prolific goalscorers, boasting an impressive tally of 97 goals in 102 matches since his move from Coventry City to Sporting Lisbon in 2023.

United are said to have the 27-year-old in their sights ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, with reports claiming they have 'made contact' to better understand the player's current situation.

After a dismal Premier League campaign where the Red Devils finished 15th and lost the Europa League final to Spurs, no UEFA Champions League football could be a 'deal breaker' for any potential Gyokeres transfer.

But after missing out on other options, including Ipswich Town's Liam Delap who made the switch to Chelsea, the Man United hierarchy might have to bring out the red carpet and go all out to secure his services.

One potential bonus that may be offered to the frontman is the historic Man United number nine shirt which has been worn by a number of club icons including Sir Bobby Charlton, Andy Cole, Dimitar Berbatov and more.

It is currently occupied by Rasmus Hojlund, who has endured a torrid two years in Manchester since he arrived from Atalanta in a deal worth up to £72 million.

Recent rumours claim the Dane could be heading for the Old Trafford exit door this summer, with Manchester Evening News understanding Inter Milan have emerged as one of the frontrunners for his signature.

So should Hojlund sign on the dotted line for a move to Italy or elsewhere, Gyokeres could well be offered the iconic No.9 shirt number as an added bonus that could be the needle mover for the much-anticipated transfer.
