'Shocked me': Alexis Mac Allister admits he's still fuming over something which happened at Anfield months ago

Although the season is now over, there are some controversial moments that are simply too bad to overlook.

The Reds romped towards the league title and one player who was key in helping achieve this was Alexis Mac Allister.

The Argentine enjoyed a stellar second season for Liverpool and showed again why he is one of the world’s best, with his £35m price tag looking like an absolute steal.

With Liverpool’s pre-season right around the corner, many would think the players are fully focused on resting ahead of this, but not Mac Allister.

Despite picking up his first Premier League title, there is one decision from last season that the 26-year-old is still seething about – and rightly so.

Alexis Mac Allister is still fuming over James Tarkowski tackle

Despite overcoming Merseyside rivals Everton at Anfield back in April, the game was overshadowed by James Tarkowski’s horrific challenge on Mac Allister, with the Englishman, somehow, escaping a red card.

Two months on, the Argentine is still raging about the incident as it could have changed the course of his career for good, with the midfielder addressing it in an interview back home in Argentina, reported by the Liverpool Echo.

“”It could have broken my leg twice!” Mac Allister insisted.

“That they didn’t send him [Tarkowski] off was incredible. If I’d had my foot planted on the ground, it would have broken my leg completely.

“At the time, I realised it was too strong. But what shocked me most was his face when he went for the tackle. I wouldn’t say he was going to try to break me, but I feel I was lucky given the way he went in.”

To rub salt into Mac Allister’s wounds, PGMOL acknowledged after the game that Tarkowski should indeed have been sent off, highlighting another reason why VAR is so heavily disliked.

Alexis Mac Allister can reach another level with Florian Wirtz

Luckily for the Argentine, he won’t have to recover from his leg being in a cast for a number of months, with his potential looking frightening if Liverpool sign Florian Wirtz.

Although there were rumours that Wirtz wanted Mac Allister’s shirt number, this was proven false by the German himself after posting an angry Instagram story saying “I respect players. Don’t believe everything that’s written.”

Now, with Mac Allister ready to become one of the best in the world, Wirtz’s arrival may just help him achieve this and Liverpool will look to dominate the midfield battle for years to come.

The 26-year-old really has no ceiling and the combination of him and Wirtz next season will strike fear into any opposing midfield.
