Everton are bracing themselves for offers for star player Jarrad Branthwaite, and Tottenham could now come calling for him.

Branthwaite has been outstanding for Everton, helping form one of the best defences in the Premier League in the second half of the season.

There is no shortage of interest in the 22-year-old, with Chelsea and Manchester United both pursuing Branthwaite in the past.

With Tottenham now in the Champions League, they have now joined the race, and could now sell a popular player to bring him in.

Tottenham could sell Ben Davies if they sign Branthwaite

Tottenham recently activated a one-year extension clause in the contract of defender Ben Davies, but they could still sell him this summer to poach David Moyes’ star centre-back.

The Daily Mail (9 June) have now reported that Tottenham could sell Davies to newly-promoted Championship side Wrexham for a minimal fee, but this would depend on whether they can recruit Branthwaite.

Davies is a popular figure at Tottenham, and could still be kept as depth if they cannot sign Branthwaite.

Branthwaite has had two outstanding Premier League campaigns

It is stated that Tottenham will formalise their interest in Branthwaite by next week in a major update, with the Lilywhites expected to appoint Thomas Frank as their new manager.

Everton’s lack of European football could make keeping their top players tough, but fans may argue that Tottenham is a questionable move for Branthwaite.

Branthwaite can hold out for bigger move than Tottenham

Branthwaite is clearly destined for the top level, and is one of the best young centre-backs in the world, meaning that while Everton are not in Europe, they are in danger of losing him.

However, with Tottenham actually finishing below Everton in the Premier League this season, the Englishman could perhaps hold out for a bigger and better move.

If he even stays at Everton for one more season and continues to excel, there will be no shortage of interest in him from established Champions League sides.

A move to Tottenham could see him play among Europe’s elite for one season, but it will still take a huge turnaround for them to qualify again next season.

Branthwaite has the potential to choose a bigger move, even this summer if other clubs also formalise their interest, and Everton may demand a fee too big for Tottenham anyway, making this move somewhat unlikely.
