Man City youngster eyeing permanent move elsewhere could potentially provide strong West Brom competition

At right back Darnell Furlong has been unchallenged for long periods in recent years, while the left back slot had two players fill the position last season.

After the departure of Conor Townsend, Torbjorn Heggem stepped in with the club not having a recognised left back.

And even when Callum Styles came in and impressed, it wasn't his natural position.

So there may be potential to add in one or if not both of those positions in the summer and there could be a player who featured in that position in the Championship last season, who could fit the bill.

Man City's Callum Doyle has spent recent seasons being sent out on loan to a number of clubs in the EFL.

After a season with Sunderland, he helped Coventry City to a play-off final, before then heading to Leicester City.

And last season he made a big contribution at Norwich City, before heading back to his parent club this summer amid speculation surrounding his future.

Doyle has openly told the press that he wants his next move to be a permanent switch away from City, as he looks to build his career.

The defender, who is also an England under 21 international, is a player who can play at either centre back or at left back, and impressed on the left side for the Canaries last season.

He could potentially tick a lot of boxes for Albion. Last summer Albion brought in players who could operate in different positions, like Heggem.

Doyle can do that. The only sticking point would be the fact he has two years left to run on his deal at City.

It seems that if he was going to get a move away on a permanent basis, it would be to the Championship given where he has gone on loan in the past.

Any move from any club would be dependant on how much City want for him. In the era of PSR, home grown players represent pure profit and City may want a bigger fee.

But if it is reasonable and they don't want too much, Doyle could well be someone who could not just bolster but enhance West Brom's back line.
