Arsenal’s Saka hoping to return from injury for England vs Senegal

Bukayo Saka has confirmed that he recently suffered an injury setback with Arsenal, but he’s fit again and hoping to start for England on Tuesday.

Bukayo Saka was absent from the England squad to face Andorra late last week, despite being called up by Thomas Tuchel for the June international break.

Speaking to the media on Monday, Saka explained the reason why, and added that he’s hoping to start against Senegal on Tuesday.

“After the last game of the season I had a little strain,” Saka confirmed. “Fair play to England, they managed me quite well during the week.

“I was only able to do one or two sessions before the [Andorra] game so the manager made the decision that he would leave me out and then have me involved tomorrow.

“I’m really excited to play, so hopefully I’m in the starting eleven.”

If Saka does start the match, it would be his first under Tuchel. The winger has had a couple of poorly-timed injuries in 2025 so far, preventing from making his debut under the new boss.

After a lacklustre 1-0 win over Andorra, the England team in general will be keen to make a statement in Tuesday’s fixture, even if it is only a friendly.

The Senegal clash will be Saka’s final game of the season, given Arsenal’s non-involvement in the Club World Cup. So he’ll hope to sign off with a win before getting some rest over the summer break.
