We're 82 days away from the start of the 2025 Football season! Washington will host Colorado State on August 30, and to count down the days to kickoff we've decided to take a look at the players that have worn the jerseys of each day in question.
There is little question about the top Dawg to wear 82. Ernie Conwell, a top recruit from Kentwood High School, who signed with the program in 1991, is still widely regarded as one of the top tight ends to ever play at Washington and still ranks ninth in career receptions (51) and yards (802) for the position and is tied for sixth in touchdowns with six.
At 6'2" and 255 pounds, he was a large man with soft hands and the ability to punish defenders when he caught the ball or as a blocker.
Conwell went on to earn four varsity letters with the Huskies and was selected by the St. Louis Rams in the second round of the 1996 NFL Draft. He would go on to play seven seasons with the club, earning a Super Bowl ring in Super Bowl XXXIV. He eventually signed as a free agent with the New Orleans Saints in 2003 and wrapped up his career following the 2006 season.
He finished his NFL career with 203 receptions for 2,188 yards and 15 touchdowns and was an All-Pro selection following the 2001 season.
Josh Perkins came to Washington as a big wide receiver, but eventually grew into the tight end position and wound up having a solid four-year career with the Huskies. He finished his career with 69 receptions for 911 yards and nine touchdowns and still ranks in the top 10 in all three categories for tight ends in program history.
He was eventually signed by the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2016 and went on to play in Super Bowl LI. He was released by the team two seasons later and signed with Philadelphia where he missed all of the 2020 season after being put on injured reserve.
Jordan Polk was an intriguing, multi-dimensional player coming out of Portland. Although small at just 5'8" and 160 pounds, he was an explosive receiver who then head coach Steve Sarkisian saw as a prefect fit in the slot receiver spot in the Husky offense.
While he had some moments, Polk never lived up to his reputation as "lightning in a bottle" and finished with just 16 receptions for 191 yards while playing in 28 games.
Notable 82s: Ernie Conwell, Will Conwell, Bret Gagliardi, Josh Perkins, Dennis Brimhall, Craig Davilier, Matt DeBord, Jon Lyon, Mark McDonald, Brian Pittman, Jordan Polk, Mitch Robbins
