Tottenham close in on new manager – and he wants to sign £60m Newcastle target

Last week, Tottenham Hotspur proved that ending a 17-year trophy drought is sometimes not enough to save your job.

Ange Postecoglou delivered a Europa League to Spurs last month after beating Man Utd in May’s final, but he was sacked by the North London side just 16 days after lifting silverware.

Spurs were awful in the league last term, finishing 17th and above only the relegated trio of Southampton, Leicester and Ipswich, but the announcement was a brutal reminder of the cut-throat nature of modern day football.

A few days on, it looks like Daniel Levy has not only found his replacement, but a man who is immediately keen to sign a £60m target of our own.

According to The Telegraph, Tottenham are now on the verge of securing Thomas Frank as their new manager.

It’s believed Brentford will demand a £10m compensation fee for the Dane, who has already signalled his interest in taking the job in North London.

Fabrizio Romano also reports that a deal for Frank has reached the ‘final stages’, so it very much seems the 51-year-old Bees boss will be in the dugout when Newcastle take on Spurs home and away next season.

A transfer twist could come with Frank’s arrival at Spurs, as a new report reveals his wish to bring Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo with him.

The Mirror’s Darren Lewis reports that Newcastle had a January approach turned down for the Cameroonian and our interest in the 25-year-old has been well documented, only for his reported wages demands to complicate any potential move.

Instead, it’s been Man Utd who have moved into pole position for this signature, but it’s believed Frank is eager to make a move, especially as the Red Devils have been unable to agree a fee with Brentord up to this point.
