Derby County favourite exits Premier League club after two games in six years

Reserve goalkeeper Scott Carson warms up prior to a Manchester City match

Manchester City have confirmed that veteran goalkeeper Scott Carson will part ways with the club as his contract comes to an end this summer.

The 39 year old has been with the Etihad side for six years, where he played a back-up role in Pep Guardiola's team.

Carson's time saw limited game-time with just two first-team appearances; however, he was part of a successful squad that claimed 12 titles, including Champions League glory in 2023.

A statement from Manchester City expressed gratitude, saying: "Everyone at Manchester City would like to thank Scott for his hard work and dedication and wish him the very best of luck for the future."

Having initially joined Manchester City on a loan deal from Derby County in 2019, Carson made his stay permanent in 2021.

Boasting a lengthy 21-year career to date, Carson's previous clubs include Leeds, Liverpool, and West Brom, and he has also been capped four times by England.

Four of those years came at Pride Park where he made 171 appearances and won Player of the Year in 2017. He was part of three play-off campaigns.

His exit is one of several changes at City amid ongoing restructuring plans after a somewhat disappointing season.

The club is reportedly nearing agreements to bring in Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Ait-Nouri and is also linked with a possible move for Lyon's French midfielder Rayan Cherki.

Follow significant January additions such as Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis, and Nico Gonzalez, Manchester City are expected to continue their reshuffling.

As Kevin De Bruyne plans to leave when the season ends, rumours are also swirling about potential exits for Kyle Walker and Jack Grealish, coupled with a reshuffle in the coaching staff following the departures of Juanma Lillo, Inigo Dominguez, and Carlos Vicens.
