Lions Trade Idea Would Land Shedeur Sanders From Browns

The Detroit Lions have Jared Goff under center and he has been playing well since being acquired from the Los Angeles Rams. Last season, Goff finished fifth in the NFL MVP voting.

While the Lions have their quarterback of the present, Goff is now 30 years old. He has played well, but Detroit could use a better backup quarterback option and a potential quarterback of the future.

Right now, the Lions have Hendon Hooker and Kyle Allen behind Goff. However, a new trade suggestion would see the team land a major name to be the new primary backup.

Anne Erickson of Heavy Sports has suggested a surprising trade between Detroit and the Cleveland Browns that would feature Shedeur Sanders.

In her trade suggestion, Erickson had Sanders being shipped to Detroit in exchange for Hooker and a 2026 fifth-round pick.

"The pitch is that the Lions get Sanders, and the Browns get (Hendon) Hooker and a 2026 fifth-round pick," Erickson wrote. "The Lions have a plethora of picks lined up for 2026, so losing a fifth-rounder shouldn't hurt too much. They would still have their coveted first and second-round picks. Plus, the Browns have a huge quarterback room, so it would be a better fit for Hooker, who seems to need more time to develop."

Of course, this trade would only happen if Sanders isn't working his way up in the Browns' quarterback competition. He's facing stiff competition from Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel, and Kenny Pickett.

While it's an interesting idea, no one should expect Sanders to be traded by Cleveland. The Browns' fan base has done nothing but talk about and get excited about the former Colorado star since he was drafted in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Sanders has a legitimate chance to become a franchise quarterback in the NFL. His arm talent is more than capable of handling that role and he has shown a great drive to be special so far in Cleveland.

If this trade were on the table, the Lions would be wise to pursue it. However, there is a very good chance that the Browns would have zero interest in considering moving on from Sanders at this point.

Expect to continue hearing Sanders' name as the season draws closer. He's one of the most popular talking points in the NFL right now.
