Chelsea retained list released as four set to leave after huge transfer decisions confirmed

Chelsea have confirmed that four players will be leaving the club later this month. In an official announcement of the 2024/25 retained list, a quartet of academy hopefuls have all brought their stay to an end.

The most notable name is goalkeeper Lucas Bergstrom, who has been on the bench for the senior team throughout this season's Conference League campaign. The 22-year-old also played during pre-season in America under Enzo Maresca but never made an appearance.

Bergstrom was a substitute during the Conference League final last month and has had loans at Peterborough United and Brommapojkarna in Sweden. The tall shot-stopper came in from his homeland Finland via Turun Palloseura.

Two other young goalkeepers will be departing on June 30 as well. Eddie Beach and Luke Campbell will also exit the club after spending last season on loan.

Beach spent the first half of last year at Crawley Town before returning in January. He arrived from Southampton as a teenager in 2022 and had loans at Chelmsford and Gateshead previously. Beach is a Wales Under-21s prospect and has been around Maresca in training previously.

As for Campbell, he spent time at Hendon before playing with the Chelsea Under-21s side last season. He came through the ranks at Cobham from the Under-9s. At just 19, he is seeking to find another pathway into the professional game.

Also included in the released list is Dylan Williams. The left-back joined from Derby County in 2022 but never made the breakthrough from academy football.

Williams joined Burton Albion on loan last season where he played 26 times in League One. Burton had already made the news of his permanent transfer public earlier this summer. He performed well for Chelsea's development team without getting a first-team opportunity.

Jadon Sancho is not listed here but football.london expects the Manchester United loanee to be heading back to Old Trafford once his deal comes to an end. Chelsea had the chance to sign Sancho for £25million but decided to pay a £5million fee to waver the obligation.

Writing on Instagram once the news broke, Sancho wrote: "Grateful for the experience. Big love to everyone at Chelsea who made me feel at home — teammates, staff and the fans. Wishing the club all the best moving forward. Truly grateful, Thank you Blues [blue heart and prayer hands emojis]".

Meanwhile, Chelsea have also announced the signing of 19-year-old centre-back Mamadou Sarr from sister club RC Strasbourg. Sarr joins Liam Delap and Dario Essugo as teaming up with Maresca and his men ahead of the Club World Cup in America.

Sarr, like Essugo, agreed to move to Chelsea earlier this year. They will be joined by the returning Djordje Petrovic and Andrey Santos, also from loans at Strasbourg in Ligue 1.
