Rasmus Hojlund could be reunited with former Man United manager as seven clubs show interest in £42m star

Rasmus Hojlund is attracting plenty of interest across Europe despite his underwhelming season with Manchester United.

Manchester United are in the market for a new striker following Rasmus Hojlund’s terrible 2024/25 campaign.

Ruben Amorim is keen to reunite with Viktor Gyokeres, while Victor Osimhen and Samu Oghehowa have also been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

But United’s summer arrivals will depend on outgoings and so far Ineos are finding it difficult to complete sales. Jadon Sancho’s Chelsea move collapsed while Marcus Rashford and Antony are still no closer to leaving.

One player who could still depart Old Trafford this summer is Rasmus Hojlund.

Rasmus Hojlund could reunite with Erik ten Hag

Earlier this week, Hojlund said he expects to stay at United and honour his contract which is valid until 2030.

However, Inter Milan have shown interest in Hojlund and transfer expert Graeme Bailey has exclusively told United in Focus that the player is more open to a permanent exit than he is letting on.

Bailey said: “Hojlund knows he can leave and his people are working on the options. United have made it clear that they are looking at a permanent deal and I firmly believe that Hojlund wants that too. There is little interest in a loan from either side.

“There is strong interest from Italy – Inter Milan, Napoli, Juventus and even AC Milan – they all like him, but Hojlund is not moving to be second or third choice. He wants to play – so at Inter and Napoli, that could be a real issue.

“I am told that the German interest is genuine, the family like Germany – both his twin brothers are there – and it is a consideration.

“RB Leipzig like him, and they could need a Sesko replacement, whilst Eintracht Frankfurt have looked. Can we discount Erik Ten Hag and Bayer Leverkusen? No, I am told we should keep an eye on them.

“Hojlund knows the next choice of club is big and he wants and needs to get it right.”

Rasmus Hojlund’s record under Erik ten Hag

Hojlund made his £64m move to United during Erik ten Hag’s tenure and he arrived at Old Trafford supposed to be the club’s long-term answer up front.

However, reports suggest United have set a £42m asking price for Hojlund with Ineos prepared to accept a loss on their investment.

While Ruben Amorim has been supportive of Hojlund and backed him to return to form, his goalscoring record under the Portuguese head coach is nowhere near good enough.

During their time in Manchester together, Ten Hag was a big admirer of Hojlund and he was finding the back of the net much more often.

In 51 games under Ten Hag, Hojlund scored 18 goals across all competitions. In contrast, he has scored just eight in 40 games under Amorim so far.

A move to Ten Hag’s Bayer Leverkusen is a possibility according to Bailey, but they are just one of seven clubs showing an interest in the Danish forward.
