Ruud van Nistelrooy is still expected to be sacked at Leicester City despite ongoing uncertainty, sources have told Football Insider.
The 48-year-old remains in place at the King Power Stadium – even with pre-season training set to get underway in around a month.
However, sources say he is very unlikely to be in charge for the 2025-26 campaign – with the delay over his exit due to finances at Leicester.
The Foxes are evaluating alternatives and are waiting to get their house in order before confirming Van Nistelrooy’s departure.
Van Nistelrooy still set to exit as Leicester miss out on Martin
Russell Martin had been a top target for Leicester but rejected their offer and has now taken the job at Rangers, a major blow to Foxes chiefs.
Sources say it is a “matter of when, not if” Van Nistelrooy is moved on after a dismal spell in charge – which saw him oversee Leicester’s relegation from the Premier League.
The Foxes finished 19th in the top flight in the 2024-25 campaign after sacking Steve Cooper with the club sitting 16th after 12 games.
Van Nistelrooy, former PSV boss, won just five of 27 games in charge at Leicester across all competitions.
The Dutchman was given the job after an impressive spell in interim charge at Man United, where he won three games and drew one.
Leicester will discover their first opponents back in the Championship later this month (26 June), with Southampton and Ipswich also reprising their roles as challengers in the second tier next term.

Leicester set for extra £10m+ after confirmed news
Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (31 May) that Leicester are set to cut their wage bill by more than £10million after confirming three senior players will leave the club.
It was confirmed in April that Jamie Vardy would leave Leicester at the end of his contract on 30 June.
Danny Ward will also leave the club, while Daniel Iversen has already agreed a free transfer switch to Preston North End.
