Man United are desperate to sign a new striker this summer. They have identified Viktor Gyokeres as the top target. But, the Red Devils have now been handed a major blow in the pursuit as the striker prefers to join their Premier League rivals instead.
Manchester United have really struggled to make difference this season. They scored only 44 goals in Premier League. As a result, Ruben Amorim is desperate to resolve that issue. He wants a new striker quickly and the board is ready to back him by spending big.
United are likely to part ways with both Hojlund and Zirkzee. These former Serie A strikers have failed to impress at Old Trafford. Amorim has already identified a player who he wants to take the number nine position. He is Viktor Gyokeres whom the Portugese manager used to work with before moving to England.
Gyokeres has been unstoppable for Sporting since joining them. In addition, he has also been superb for Sweden national team. Hence, he has a lot of options. He is wanted by Man United’s rivals Arsenal. Gunners are also desperate to sign a new striker to end their Premier League title drought next season.
Arsenal lead Man United in race for Viktor Gyokeres
According to The Mirror, Gyokeres prefers to join Arsenal this summer. He has already told about his wish to leave Sporting. This will come as a massive blow for Man United. Sporting are already prepared for the striker’s departure and have also put on a price tag.
Sporting are demanding more than £60 million for Gyokeres. This is lot less than his original release clause. He will surely be a very good addition to Arsenal squad. Mikel Arteta has came close to winning league title in recent seasons and a clinical striker like Viktor Gyokeres can complete the job for him.
