An intriguing update has arrived this afternoon on a potential deal involving Newcastle United and Aston Villa.
Sky Sports report that Newcastle are showing a ‘keen interest’ in Jacob Ramsey and have been given some encouragement that a move may be possible.
Writing for Sky, Sacha Tavolieri reveals that Ramsey is ‘not considered indispensable in the eyes of Unai Emery’, with Villa refusing to rule out a potential transfer for the 24-year-old.
This makes some sense given their PSR situation, with reports suggesting a significant sale may be needed this month to see the Villains avoid breaching the Premier League’s financial rules.
They won’t let him go on the cheap, however, as Sky Sports go on to reveal that Newcastle have been ‘warned’ over their asking price, with Villa insisting on at least £30m for the former England Under-21 star.
On a day that’s seen Joe Willock linked with a potential move away this summer, fellow left-sided midfielder Ramsey could be an upgrade on the talented but out of sorts Willock.
If Newcastle also believe they can take advantage of Villa’s PSR situation and exploit a June market that hampered us 12 months ago, this could be a move that not only upgrades our left-side but sees a real ‘Eddie Howe player’ arrive, with Ramsey’s running power and versatility likely to be admired.
One to watch over the coming weeks, perhaps?
