Newcastle United transfer target Dominic Calvert-Lewin has still not committed to a deal at Everton - leaving the door open for the Magpies.

The former Sheff United star is admired by Eddie Howe with Newcastle attempting to sign him last season before talks broke down with Everton. Those discussions crumbled because of demands at the Everton end as Yankuba Minteh was a big target of the Toffees.

Yet Calvert-Lewin could be a free agent after June 30 and only personal terms would need to be agreed. With Callum Wilson's future uncertain on Tyneside, Calvert-Lewin could be deemed as an incoming deal at St James' Park if Howe maintains his stance that the England international can provide him with cover for Alexander Isak.

Everton confirmed that Calvert-Lewin had not given them a decision this morning and a statement read: "Everton can provide an update on players who are out of contract at the end of this month in line with the Premier League publication of clubs’ retained and released lists.

"The Club is offering new contracts to Seamus Coleman and Idrissa Gana Gueye, while we continue to liaise with representatives of Michael Keane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, with the current deals of all four players expiring at the end of June."

Everton boss David Moyes had said on the striker last season: "Undoubtedly he's got qualities other strikers don't have, and he has to show us all when he gets the opportunities that he'll take it.

"We need him to be ready to train, play, be competitive in more games than he's been available for."

In another injury interrupted campaign, Calvert-Lewin made 26 appearances and scored three goals. But he did not feature between January and May.
