Chelsea's initial €35m bid for England U-21 forward rejected, talks ongoing - Chelsea News

Chelsea have entered negotiations with Borussia Dortmund for forward Jamie Gittens, and have seen their initial bid of €35m rejected. Dortmund are demanding €50-60m for the England U-21 forward, according to Sky Sports.

Negotiations are ongoing between the clubs and a new bid from Chelsea is expected. Personal terms between Chelsea and the player are believed to be already agreed, with the player keen to join the Blues in time for the Club World Cup.

The deadline for the mini transfer window closes on Tuesday, June 10th. Dortmund are also set to feature in the tournament and are not under any pressure to sell before then.

Gittens is under contract until 2028 and has shone brightly for the Dortmund despite his fairly limited appearances last season. He enjoyed a run in the side earlier in the season, grabbing headlines for his performance in an October Champions League match against Real Madrid when he scored and looked a real menace down the left hand flank.

His goal made him the youngest English player to score against Real Madrid in the Champions League. He saw his playing time decrease following the appointment of manager Niko Kovac in January, with the player finding himself behind Karim Adeyemi in the pecking order.

Gittens has played 106 times for Dortmund, scoring 17 goals. He is a former Manchester City youth team player and they hold a clause guaranteeing them 10% of his next transfer fee.

The 20 year old remains a top prospect with the player drawing admiration from several clubs across Europe.

Chelsea keen on Gittens

Chelsea are looking for reinforcements to the forward line. The Blues have made the decision to send Jadon Sancho back to United following his loan deal, and will be looking to add another wide player.

The Blues have already completed the signing of Liam Delap from Ipswich town after triggering his £30m release clause, and remain linked to more big name forwards. Chelsea have also completed the signing of young midfielder Mamadou Sarr from French club RC Strasbourg, and are working on a deal for AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

Delap and Sarr are eligible to play for Chelsea in this summer’s Club World Cup, but the club will have to move quickly to ensure Gittens can do the same. Chelsea will need to register the player before Tuesday’s registration deadline.
