Manchester United have issued their end-of-season retained list, confirming they are in talks with goalkeeper Tom Heaton over a new contract.
Heaton's current deal is due to expire at the end of June after he signed a new one-year deal last summer. However, as reported by the Manchester Evening News last month, United are in discussions with the veteran shot-stopper to keep him at the club.
Despite only making three appearances since returning to United in the summer of 2021, the 39-year-old is a valued member of the dressing room and has been part of the leadership group.
United's decision to offer Heaton a new deal highlights uncertainty around the goalkeeping department. Head coach Ruben Amorim wants to recruit a new shot-stopper this summer to challenge Andre Onana for the No.1 spot.
United had already confirmed Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen would be leaving the club when their deals expire on June 30.
They each made their final competitive appearances for the club in the 2-0 win over Aston Villa on the final day of the Premier League season last month. Eriksen marked the occasion by scoring a second half penalty.
Elsewhere, United have confirmed academy players Hubert Graczyk, Jack Kingdon, Sam Murray, Tom Myles, James Nolan and Tom Wooster will also be released when their contracts expire this summer.
Kingdon and Murray spent time away from Old Trafford on loan last season, enjoying stints at Rochdale and Inverness Caledonian Thistle respectively, as did young goalkeepers Myles and Wooster, who had spells at Runcorn Linnets and Farsley Celtic respectively.
Meanwhile, United have also confirmed youngster Ashton Missin has been offered a contract to stay at the club. He signed his first professional contract at Old Trafford last summer.
