**Newcastle United are keen to add to their striker options this summer, and with Callum Wilson's future undetermined with just a few weeks until his contract expires, there could be an increased need to add bodies.**
Regardless of whether Wilson stays or moves on, Newcastle must sign a first-team-ready striker this summer, but should Wilson depart, that could leave the Magpies wanting a bit of extra cover.
One player whose name is never far away from the suggestion of a move to St James' Park is that of Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
The 28-year-old is seen by many Newcastle fans, ourselves included, as nothing more than a sideways step from Callum Wilson due to his injury issues.

Say it aint' so!
Dominic Calvert-Lewin's contract talks with Everton have stalled
----------------------------------------------------------------
Reports have had Eddie Howe chasing DCL for years, but now the striker's talks over a new Everton deal have stalled, according to [The Chronicle](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-united-see-door-open-31817206), and there's a risk that they could lose their striker for free when his contract expires at the end of the month.
This would make it very easy for Newcastle to finally get their man after being linked with a £40 million approach last year.
The Everton man managed just three goals and two assists last season in 26 Premier League appearances. He also had a spell on the sidelines with another injury, as is the tradition.
There'd be method in the madness if Newcastle signed Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but its conditional
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Free signing or not, if Dominic Calvert-Lewin ends up being the only striker we sign this summer, I can imagine the Newcastle fanbase will hit the roof.
While talking to people isn't my favourite pastime, those whom I have spoken to and got onto the topic of football have all been pretty vehemently opposed to signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Forever injured and prone to longer droughts than Egypt.
If Newcastle continue to pursue João Pedro or someone similar, who is likely to be available all season, and we bring in DCL purely as a back-up, then we can see the logic in it, akin to that of giving Callum Wilson a new deal. We do need numbers to help us compete on four fronts next season, but Calvert-Lewin is not the answer to our first-team competition prayers.
