Especially after finishing fifteenth in the Premier League – their lowest ever Premier League finish since records began.
The consequences of that decline are being felt now more than ever.
Top-tier talents are continuing to look elsewhere in search of stability and ambition.
Liam Delap choosing to join Chelsea despite already holding talks with United, being a prime example.

Adrien Rabiot speaks out on rejecting Manchester United
Adrien Rabiot has confirmed that he rejected the chance to join Manchester United on two separate occasions, including just last summer following his exit from Juventus.
The French international, now at Marseille, admitted that he had serious talks with United both in 2022 and 2023, even receiving formal offers from the club.
“It really could have happened two years ago,” Rabiot told The Athletic.
“We had great talks, and there were written offers.
“But in the end, it didn’t happen.”

He added that last summer’s decision came down to doubts over United’s trajectory.
“I felt a bit of reticence about whether United were going to be able to go on and achieve great things.
“Because they’re in a bit of a hole at the moment.”
Now enjoying life at Marseille, Rabiot told The Athletic that he has no regrets: “I arrived at Marseille and I had a great season.
“I helped the club to fulfil its objectives by qualifying [for the Champions League] in my first season.”
