Man United could suffer repeat of 2020 regret as Jason Wilcox misses out on£31m deal

Manchester United’s new sporting director Jason Wilcox has already suffered a few setbacks in the summer transfer window.

The latest Ineos reshuffle in Manchester United’s boardroom saw Sir Dave Brailsford step down and Jason Wilcox promoted to sporting director.

Together with Christopher Vivell, he will be tasked with leading United’s rebuild this summer with Ruben Amorim.

So far, United have confirmed the arrival of Matheus Cunha and submitted bids for Bryan Mbeumo in an attempt to freshen up the attacking options available to Amorim.

United missed out on Liam Delap, though, with the Ipswich striker preferring to join Chelsea. Now, Jason Wilcox has missed out on another top target.

Man United miss out on Jobe Bellingham deal

Strengthening the midfield is not a priority for United this summer, but with Christian Eriksen leaving and Casemiro not getting any younger, it is an area Ineos could look to improve.

Reports claimed Wilcox wanted to sign Jobe Bellingham this summer following his extraordinary season at Sunderland.

However, United have been beaten to Jobe Bellingham’s signature with BBC reporting that Borussia Dortmund have struck a £31m agreement to sign the 19-year-old midfielder.

United showed interest in Bellingham and Chris Rigg and were keen on striking a deal even after Sunderland’s promotion to the Premier League.

But once again Dortmund have beaten United to one of the Bellingham brothers.

Man United were also beaten to Jude Bellingham by Borussia Dortmund

Back in 2020, a 17-year-old Bellingham was ready to leave Championship club Birmingham City and United were among the favourites to sign him.

However, Dortmund won the race and struck a £25m deal for the English midfielder. Just three years later, Bellingham made a move to Real Madrid which could rise to £114m.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer missed out on Bellingham despite inviting him and his family to Old Trafford to meet various club legends.

United failed to convince Bellingham of a move to Manchester, and now it seems they have also failed to lure his younger brother five years later.

Ineos could end up full of regret if Jobe is able to follow in his brother’s footsteps and become a global superstar in Germany.
