Sky Sports: Newcastle keen to sign £30m+ star compared to Bellingham, Howe really wants him

Newcastle United have shown a “keen interest” in Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey, according to Sky Sports Switzerland’s Sacha Tavolieri.

A season made immortal for fans when Newcastle won the Carabao Cup was made even better when, on the final day of the season, their place in the 2025/26 Champions League was confirmed. This marked their second campaign in the competition in three years, a testament to Eddie Howe’s brilliant work at the club thus far.

It has been reported that Newcastle are keen to bolster their striking options. Behind the sensational Alexander Isak, Callum Wilson, though offered a new deal, has struggled for fitness and form in recent seasons, while William Osula remains a young prospect.

With Champions League football to prepare for, the Magpies are keen to reinforce in multiple areas of the pitch, with recent reports suggesting that Newcastle would like to add further numbers to their midfield.

Sacha Tavolieri has reported that Newcastle are admirers of Jacob Ramsey, the Aston Villa midfielder who is a product of the club’s youth academy. Excluding periods of injury, Ramsey was a constant presence in the Villa team, be it as part of the starting 11 or coming off the bench.

Newcastle are said to appreciate that Ramsey, a midfielder, is just as comfortable on the left-hand side of the pitch. Howe’s midfielders cover lots of ground in a game and in Ramsey, the Magpies would be signing a player that can not only compete for a place in central midfield, but with Anthony Gordon on Newcastle’s left wing.

Villa would, reportedly, want at least £30 million for Ramsey, who has been compared to Jude Bellingham as a player. Newcastle could be tempted to match their pricetag, given that the midfielder is just 24 years old. Ramsey is a player that “perfectly matches” Howe’s tactical system and could be a brilliant signing for a Newcastle team that have European football to prepare for.
