Packers Released Pro Bowl Defender On Monday

The Green Bay Packers couldn’t reach an agreement with Jaire Alexander.

They were reportedly trying to restructure his contract, but to no avail.

That’s why they had no choice but to release him, according to a report by Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

Alexander struggled with injuries over the past couple of years.

The Packers informed the Pro Bowl cornerback of this move early on Monday, finally allowing both parties to move on from one another.

Despite their contract dispute and the trade rumors, Alexander reportedly was planning to attend the team’s mandatory minicamp after skipping the voluntary workouts.

He struggled to stay on the field last season, making just seven appearances despite practicing regularly.

The Packers placed him on Injured Reserve ahead of the regular-season finale, and he went under the knife to repair a torn PCL in the offseason.

Even so, he still had the second-most interceptions (two) and pass breakups (seven) on the team.

That was on the heels of a season hampered by knee and shoulder injuries.

He was also suspended for one game, making just seven appearances in 2023 as well.

Alexander still had two years left in his contract, and he was set to make $17.5 million this season.

His salary was non-guaranteed, so it was an easy decision for the Packers to shed his salary and just let him walk.

Even so, as a former All-Pro, it shouldn’t take long before he lands on his feet, and there should be no shortage of potential takers.
