Manchester United have officially submitted their retained list to the Premier League, confirming the departure of several senior players whose contracts have expired – including Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof.
However, in a surprise twist, Tom Heaton has been named among those released but remains in active discussions with the club over a potential contract extension.

The 38-year-old goalkeeper, who returned to United in 2021 for a second spell, is being considered for a new deal that would keep him as part of the squad for the 2025/26 campaign.
Despite making just three senior appearances in his second stint, Tom Heaton has been praised internally for his leadership, mentorship, and professionalism – qualities Ruben Amorim values highly within a rebuilt United side.
Like Evans, Heaton is an Academy graduate and could be kept around for continuity and depth, especially with changes expected in the goalkeeping department.
The rest of the free transfer list includes Hubert Graczyk, Jack Kingdon, Sam Murray, Tom Myles, James Nolan and Tom Wooster, all of whom will be supported by the club in finding new opportunities.
The departure of Eriksen, Evans and Lindelof marks the end of an era, but United’s decision to potentially retain Heaton speaks volumes about the club’s direction under Amorim.
